The Durgam Cheruvu is the one of the scenic beauties of
Hyderabad in the past. It served as a fresh water lake in the times of Nizams.
The actual name of it is Raidurgam Cheruvu which became
Durgam Cheruvu , Under the rule of the Qutub Shahi dynasty (ca. 1518–1687), this lake served as the drinking water
source for the residents of Golconda fort.
In 2001, the Tourism department of the local government initiated steps to promote the lake as a tourist
destination. As a part of this, five boats were to be deployed at the lake.
Later it became a place for timepass fishing for many people.
Every weekends people used to come here for fishing and enjoy the scenic
beauty.
But later the lake was damaged by people as they started
throwing garbage into it and many diversions of drainage's was attached to it.
This led to cause pollution and the lake was totally
damaged, but now after formation of Telangana State, the Government is took a
decision for developing urban water bodies.

Under this scheme an Initiative was taken up by K Reheja
Group along with TSIIC GHMC TSTDC HMWS and SB and the lake Is now developed as
a beautiful place.
Raheja Group is a pioneer in the field of Construction, and
they have taken this development activity as a CSR work which led to beautiful
moulding of this destroyed lake.
On 28-08-2018, the lake was opened to Public by Telangana IT
Minister K.T. Rama Rao, he also took some keen interest in developing the lake.
The Cosmetic touches has created a Eco friendly ambience around the lake, and these lake plays a Major role in Hyderabad Tourism.
The New Rejuvenated Durgam Cheruvu will have a
Grand new Walking and Cycling Track, different types of Exotic and beautiful
trees such as Italian Pencil Pines, Birded Ficus etc,

There is a children play area and a all new Durgam Plaza where people can
gather and organise some events or cultural programmes.
The walls of the lake corridor are filled with Mandala art which brings
it a added new look. The Mandala Art is a mix of complex yet calming abstract
geometrical circles. The most basic form of Mandalas is squares with four gates
containing a circle with a centre point emanating array of symbols, shapes and
forms.

The 2.2 Km Jogging and Cycling Track lets the locals to enjoy
mornings at the park and there are beautifully placed landscapes, waterfalls
and children play area.
This a bonded and hidden lake of Hyderabad will now become a
favourite destination for many people of Hyderabad.
GHMC now planning to add one more attraction to this, that
is Rock climbing which will increase visitors to this place.
Officials said they have made a request for proposals from
potential concessionaires, to supply necessary material -- good quality cycles
on rental basis where the rent will be fixed by the GHMC, and two certified
rock climbing experts and a facility in the area.

This Lake will defiantly be a relief for many IT people as
this lake is spread in core IT Corridor.
The Development is being done under three phases, where
Phase 1 is completed now.
GHMC may put up a rate chart similar to that of Pala Pitta
park to meet needs once Phase-2 gets completed. Until then, Raheja Group will
maintain the lake.
